Editorial Standards

Our newsroom is Midwest-first, Latino-owned and culturally fluent. Every story still has to earn its place on the facts.

  • Verify first. Facts, dates and claims should trace to reliable reporting or primary sources.
  • Add something original. A press release or another outlet can start the reporting; it cannot be the finished story.
  • Keep the Midwest honest. We use a regional angle when it genuinely matters and never manufacture local relevance.
  • Label uncertainty. Rumors, reports and marketing claims stay clearly attributed.
  • Earn the word review. We call something a review only after firsthand viewing, playing, listening or use.
  • Keep judgment separate. Access, sponsorships and affiliate relationships do not buy favorable coverage.
  • Correct the record. Material corrections are visible and substantive updates are dated.
