PlayStation is reportedly building a social sim at Media Molecule. Sony has not said a word.

A new report claims PlayStation is developing something it has almost never made: a gentle social simulation.
ComicBook.com, citing a report from MP1st, says Media Molecule — the studio behind LittleBigPlanet and Dreams — is working on a social sim inspired by Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon. The report claims the project is not a live-service title, and that Media Molecule is targeting both a reveal and a launch in 2027. Those plans, as the reporting itself notes, could change.
Everything in the paragraph above is a report. Sony has not announced this game, has not confirmed the studio's project, and has not commented publicly. We are covering it because the studio makes the claim plausible, not because it has been verified.
It is plausible for a specific reason. PlayStation's first-party output has spent a decade concentrated in third-person action. Marvel's Wolverine is the newest example; Horizon Forbidden West, The Last of Us Part II, Marvel's Spider-Man and God of War established the pattern before it. Media Molecule has always been the exception in that portfolio, a studio acquired in 2010 whose work is built around player creation rather than choreographed set pieces. Dreams was the most ambitious version of that idea and the least commercially successful.
If the report is accurate, the obvious question is whether creation tools survive into the new genre. A social sim built by the Dreams team without player authorship would be a strange use of the studio. One with it would be the first major first-party attempt at a creation-driven cosy game, which is a genuinely interesting proposition.
There is a preservation wrinkle worth flagging early. Creation-heavy games age badly once servers close: Dreams creations live on infrastructure, not on a disc, and the value of the game is almost entirely in what players made. The report's claim that this project is not live-service is the most encouraging detail in it, if it holds.
The confirmed 2027 PlayStation slate, per the same report, currently amounts to God of War Laufey and Until Dawn 2, with Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet widely expected but not verified by Sony.
Reported claims as of 18 September 2026. Nothing here is confirmed by Sony or Media Molecule.
